Currently reclaimed by nature, the proposal is for the conversion and restoration of a historic Orangerie within the grounds of a 13th century Château in Belgium. The scheme provides a new visitors’ café, shop and gallery space.
Transferring the existing rhythms of the remaining fabric, a series of brick arches form a screen to a south-facing terrace. Beyond, lies the reinstated glass house and new café, which orientates views towards the castle.
Whilst allowing the derelict Orangerie to become an outdoor space, the intent is to restore its historic metalwork and trail the old vine to shade the terrace.
